Mismatch’s Top Tracks: October 2016

And just like that it’s November. Lets rewind for a second and take a listen to my favourite tracks of October. There were about 10 songs on my long list, which I unfortunately had to cull to just five.

VILDE – ‘Produce (Feat. QE)’

I have less time to update Mismatch these days but I still get a kick out of hearing new music, especially when it’s from an artist I’ve admired for years. VILDE is the new project from Thomas Savage (formerly Kins), the debut track highlights the distinctive vocals, experimental sounds and the lack of boundaries. I’d like more songs now please.

BATTS – ‘Lie To Me’

‘Lie To Me’ encompasses the familiar mesmerising vocals and raw emotion, with a dash of R&B and trip-hop influences. BATTS continues to deliver music in a way that is totally her own. The single launch is happening at The Workers Club this Thursday November 3rd with supports The Peeks and Angie McMahon.

Take Your Time – ‘Sleep In’

The musical pairing of Angela Schilling (Swimming, Oliver White) and Lee Hannah (The Townhouses, Sessility) is a good thing for our ears. The duo have just released their debut 7″ via local label Neat Lawn, and it’s exactly what I needed without even realising it.  It’s easy to get lost in the gentle vocals and atmospheric, electronic beats.

Yollks – ‘Return To Sender’

I love when my friends enthusiastically introduce me to a new artist, or new track. This is how I first heard about Yollks’ debut single. It’s the incredible vocals that are hard to pass up, paired beautifully with minimal synths and beats. It feels at times both vulnerable and strong. Catch her supporting Kalacoma on November 12th at The Workers Club.

APES – ‘If You Want It’
The Ballart four-piece have returned with a more refined sound. It’s slow-burner of a song that draws emphasis on the stellar lead vocals. APES are on tour in November, catch them at The Curtin on Friday November 11th.
